Your pump is the heart of your pool. When it stops moving water, your filter, cleaner, salt system, and chemicals all stop working too, and a clear pool can turn green within days in Sacramento-area heat.

Repair or Replace
Fix it, or go variable speed?
A bad seal, capacitor, or bearing can often be repaired. If the motor is burned out, or the pump is old and single-speed, replacing it usually makes more sense.
California’s Title 20 rules require most replacement pool pump motors to be variable speed. A variable speed pump runs slower, quieter, and longer, and at half speed it uses about a quarter of the energy of full speed. See our pool equipment upgrades for automation and more.

Common questions.
How long do pool pumps last?
It depends on the motor, how many hours it runs, and how well it’s maintained. Loud bearings, leaks, and frequent tripping are signs it’s near the end. We’ll tell you honestly whether yours is worth fixing.
Can I replace my pump with a single-speed pump in California?
In most cases, no. California’s Title 20 rules require replacement pool pump motors of 0.5 total horsepower or more, made on or after July 19, 2021, to be variable speed. Every pump we install is compliant.
Can you replace just the motor?
Often, yes. If the pump housing and impeller are in good shape, a new motor can be the cheaper fix. Under California rules, the new motor will usually need to be variable speed.
Why is my pool pump humming but not running?
A pump that hums but won’t spin often has a failed capacitor, seized bearings, or something jammed in the impeller. Turn it off to protect the motor, then call or text us at 916-534-0561.
