How Pool Service Quotes Work (and Why Ours Only Takes 30 Seconds)

Ask most pool companies what they charge and you will usually hear some version of “it depends, let us come take a look.” That is fair, because every pool is different. But it also means waiting days for a callback or a visit just to find out if you can afford the service. Here is how pool service quotes usually work, what really sets your monthly price, and why we built a way to get your price from a single photo in about 30 seconds.

How pool service quotes usually work

There are three common ways a pool company gives you a price. Each has real pros and cons.

1. “Call for a quote”

You call, describe your pool, and get a number over the phone, or you leave a message and wait for a call back. It is quick when someone picks up. The catch is that most homeowners do not know their pool’s gallons, so the price you hear is often a guess that changes after the first visit.

2. An in-person estimate

A tech comes out, looks at the pool and equipment, and gives you a firm price. This is the most accurate option, especially if your pool is green or your equipment is acting up. The downside is time: you schedule a visit, sometimes take time off work, and wait for the number.

3. A “starting at” price on a website

Some companies post a starting price. It helps you budget, but it is only the floor. Your pool may cost more once size, a spa, or trees are added in, and you usually still need to call to find out how much more.

What actually sets your monthly price

Weekly pool service pricing comes down to a handful of things. At The Goods Pool Service, these are the only things that change your price:

  • Type of service. Chemical-only starts at $120 per month. Full service, where we also do the cleaning, starts at $155 per month.
  • Pool size. Those prices cover pools up to 10,000 gallons. Each additional 10,000 gallons adds $10.
  • A spa. An attached spa adds $5.
  • Leaves and debris. Medium leaves add $10 and heavy leaves add $20, because trees over a pool mean more skimming and more chemicals.

How our instant photo quote is different

Every one of those price factors can be seen in a photo of your backyard. So we built a quote tool around that. You take or upload one photo of your pool, add your address, and your price shows up on the screen. Here is what makes it different from a typical quote:

  • Your price in about 30 seconds, day or night. No phone tag, no waiting for business hours, no appointment just to hear a number.
  • Real rates, not a guess. The photo is only used to estimate size, spot a spa, and gauge the trees. The price itself always comes from the same rate sheet George uses in person.
  • Both plans side by side. You see full service and chemical-only prices at the same time, so you can pick what fits your budget.
  • You stay in control. If the photo gets something wrong, like missing your spa, you can change it and the price updates instantly.
  • No contact info needed to see the price. You only share your name and number if you want to lock in the price.
  • No surprise charges. George confirms your price at the first visit. If anything needs to change, you hear about it before any work starts.

An in-person look is still the most accurate, and we do one at your first visit anyway. The photo quote just lets you skip the wait to find out whether the price works for you.

What a photo can’t tell us

We would rather be upfront about the limits. A photo cannot show:

  • Depth. We assume a typical shallow-to-deep backyard pool. A very deep diving pool may hold more water than it looks.
  • Equipment condition. A noisy pump, a leaking filter, or a failing salt cell is quoted separately as a repair.
  • A green pool. Monthly service assumes the water is already clear. If it is green, you will want a green-to-clean first.

If you know your gallons, you can enter them yourself and skip the size estimate completely.

How to take a good pool photo for a quote

  1. Take it in daylight so the whole pool is easy to see.
  2. Stand at a corner or the end of the pool so all of it fits in the frame.
  3. Include the spa and any trees next to the pool if you can.
  4. Hold the phone at chest height, not straight down. Patio chairs and pavers in the shot help us judge the size.

Before you accept any pool service quote

Whoever you hire, make sure the quote answers a few basics: are chemicals included, what happens on each visit, is there a contract, and is the company licensed and insured? We cover the full list in 12 questions to ask before you hire a pool service company.

Pool service quote FAQ

Is the instant quote free?

Yes. There is no cost and no obligation, and you do not have to share your contact info to see the price.

What happens to my photo?

It is used only to estimate your price. If you lock in your price, George receives a copy so he knows what to expect at the first visit. We never sell or share it.

Can the price change after the first visit?

Only if the pool is meaningfully different from what the photo showed, such as a much larger or deeper pool. If that happens, George tells you before any work starts, and you decide whether to go ahead.

Do you service my area?

We service pools within 25 miles of Roseville, including Rocklin, Granite Bay, Folsom, Lincoln, Sacramento, and many nearby cities.

I don’t have a photo handy. What are my options?
